Texas artist, Alisa Banks makes books that explore identity. Beneath the covers of the book, we find a deeply personal and tactile world that is intimate and revealing.
I am intrigued by the notion of “who” a person is. In this book, the viewer is invited to dig through layers of cloth pages in order to explore the “who,” which is sometimes easily accessible and sometimes not. This book offers glimpses of exterior and interior aspects of a “who.” Earth is the first in a series of books based on the elements that explores aspects of identity.
